Even though there are three more days left of the 30 day Paleo Challenge, I didn’t find it too challenging. Which is a good thing. I think we’ll continue to eat this way, that is not to say I might partake in some fish taco’s on Friday, but I don’t think I can go back to my old ways completely. Thank you Dan and Sarah for being willing and to all those that participated! I hope we can continue to exchange recipies, because I have loved most of them and it turns out…who needs bread???

Ok, so we had some, a piece or two of fire oven pizza last night and I had the craziest sweet craving today. Are they connected? I have found that I haven’t had cravings since going Paleo and this was the biggest cheat since the 30 day challenge. I’m back on the wagon, but let me tell you, it was hard to combat the crave today and I don’t want to do it again. Better to stay on the straight and narrow.

I’ve heard a lot of questions over the past couple of weeks, specifically regarding dairy, legumes, and grains. Most of these questions are followed up by other statements that begin with “but,” “well,” or “what about…” We love answering questions for you guys, and you’re certainly better off asking them than not. That being said, don’t ask them if you’re not willing to seriously consider the answer, or already have “your” answer set in your head. Above all, please try and think about your questions in an Evolutionary Sense. Some basics: - Significant evolution of the gut takes millions of years, not thousands. - If you have to cook something in order to make it digestible, it wasn’t meant to be eaten. In fact, it was poisonous. - Just because a culture has eaten things “forever” does not make it good for them. Yes, the Japanese have been eating rice for as long as history can record – their bodies reflect it. As do the bodies of Pacific Islanders who subsist on diets that are 80% fruit. - Yes, some potatoes are Paleo. So is honey. So is agave, without any additives. That does not mean you should be eating a ton of it. When in doubt, please take your question, and ask yourself if it fits within this mantra: “Eat meats and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, no (extra) sugar.”

Ended up caving and buying some Lara Bars today; I sooooo thought I could resist getting them, all the way until I had one little bite of a “Cherry” flavored one. Damn! Of course, they’re quite Paleo… But they remind me of a “gateway food,” as they come packaged, look like a candy bar, and make the quick-and-easy solutions (aka shitty food) so tempting. Anybody with some quick, easy, delicious snacks should post them on this blog – gotta squelch those midnight cravings.

Yay – thanks Sarah! ;0) So I already made one recipe that turned out amazing! I found it on the Whole30 website – it is supposed to be mango gazpacho – but I subbed it w/ papaya (since in season) and added 1 avocado for more fat…. Highly recommend it ;0) and it does indeed taste great w/ eggs or any meat! http://whole9life.com/2010/08/steal-this-meal-eggs-and-mango-gazpacho/

So Dave and I started on the 31st, mainly because his thought was “why wait?” So I spent New Year’s Eve staring at a buffet table at our friend’s house mentally counting all the delicious-looking tidbits that were off-limits. But we pulled through with pieces of ham, carrots, celery, avocado, and nuts. The funny thing was that I wasn’t hungry, I just wanted the bread and stuff, cause that’s my comfort food. Then 1/1 we had friends over for dinner, Paleo-style. Spicy mixed nuts, turkey wrapped melon, and Tropical deviled eggs for appetizers. Main meal was Greek chicken kababs, shrimp and pineapple kababs, Monterey mushrooms, and green salad. Dessert was baked apples. There were barely any left overs! So far we’re doing alright in following the challenge, but there are moments when I see all my daughter’s snacks sitting in the pantry. So far so good! Can’t wait to see what I feel like at the end of 30 days!
